Narrative
On the evening in question, the subject attended a regular meeting of the Mangrove County Commission regarding a proposed parking lot on the marsh behind First Baptist Church. The subject was wearing what he described as his one good shirt.
During public comment, the subject stated that there were herons in that water and an alligator older than the town. Witnesses described his hands as shaking.
At approximately 7:40 p.m. the rear doors opened and forty (40) alligators entered the chamber and occupied the back row. A write-in campaign followed. By morning an estimated forty thousand (40,000) alligators from the Everglades had cast ballots. None had hands. The subject was declared governor.
The developer from out of state, his model and his haircut have not been located.
The subject’s first three laws are on file. The marsh stays marsh. Steven gets a brand new face. The state bird is now the flip-flop, and the capitol has been relocated to the subject’s residence.
No statute prohibits an alligator from voting. Deputies were unable to identify a charge.
Witness Statement
They’re paving the marsh behind the Baptist church where I learned to cast a line There’s a man from out of state with a model of a parking lot and a sign
So I put on my one good shirt and went down to the county meeting Stood up with my hands shaking and I could hear my own heart beating
I said there’s herons in that water and a gator older than this town You can’t put a price on something that was here before we came around
Somebody’s got to speak for the swamp Somebody’s got to stand If there’s nobody else to do it I guess it’s gonna be this man
That’s when the back doors opened and forty gators crawled on in They took up the whole back row and every one of them was grinning
They wrote me in for governor dragging their tails across the sand Forty thousand came up from the Everglades and not a one of them had hands
The man from out of state had a model and a haircut and a plan But the gators ate the model and I think they ate the man
Governor Gator forty thousand strong Nobody told ‘em that they couldn’t vote so they voted all night long
First law, the marsh stays marsh forever Second law, Steven gets a brand new face Third law, the state bird is a flip-flop and the capitol moves to my place
Governor Gator forty thousand strong Nobody told ‘em that they couldn’t vote so they voted all night long
I had high hopes for my future I stood up for the land Now I’m governor of forty thousand gators and the only one with hands
